You may have noticed the Fort Bragg Police Department's traffic speed trailers stationed at various locations throughout our community! These trailers help us collect valuable information about vehicle speeds, traffic patterns, and compliance with posted speed limits, and allow us to better understand driving behaviors, identify areas of concern, and determine where additional traffic enforcement or safety measures may be beneficial. Our goal is to use this information to promote safer driving habits and improve roadway safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists throughout Fort Bragg.
A Few Reminders for Safe Driving:
- Slow down in school zones: Pay close attention to posted speed limits and reduce your speed when entering school zones, especially when children are present.
- Watch for pedestrians and cyclists: Be extra cautious near schools, crosswalks, intersections, and residential neighborhoods.
- Avoid distractions: Keep your eyes on the road and avoid using your phone while driving.
- Maintain a safe following distance: Give yourself plenty of room to react to sudden stops or unexpected hazards.
- Obey posted speed limits: Even a few miles per hour can make a difference in your ability to react and stop safely.
Small changes in driving habits can make a big difference! Slower speeds give drivers more time to react and help reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions. By staying alert, following posted speed limits, and looking out for one another, we can all help keep Fort Bragg's streets safe for residents, students, and visitors!
Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving! Roadway safety goes beyond following speed limits. Alcohol and drugs can impair judgment, coordination, and reaction time, putting everyone on the road at risk. If you plan to drink, plan ahead! Designate a sober driver, arrange for a ride, or call a trusted friend or family member to get home safely. Never get behind the wheel while impaired, and never let someone you know drive under the influence.
A safe ride home is always worth it. Let's work together to prevent impaired driving and keep our community safe!
