Your Right to File a Complaint
Every member of the public has the right to submit a complaint regarding the conduct of a peace officer. California law requires law enforcement agencies to establish procedures for investigating these complaints and to make a written description of those procedures available to the public.
Individuals may file a complaint even if they are uncertain whether an officer's actions violated department policy or the law. Complaints will be reviewed and investigated as appropriate, regardless of whether the allegations are ultimately substantiated.
Complaints may be submitted anonymously, and individuals are not required to use a specific complaint form to report alleged misconduct.
